Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Oxidized Eicosapentaenoic Acid Sodium Salt
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) with 20 carbon atoms and 5 carbon-carbon double bonds. Mammalian cells cannot synthesize long chain PUFAs such as EPA de novo, and, thus, the most effective way to enrich cells in EPA is by dietary intake of fish oils. EPA supplementation causes an increase in its concentration in plasma lipids and in cell membrane phos...
متن کاملMass Spectrometric Analysis of Glycosphingolipid Antigens
Glycosphingolipids (GSL's) belong to the glycoconjugate class of biomacromolecules, which bear structural information for significant biological processes such as embryonic development, signal transduction, and immune receptor recognition(1-2). They contain complex sugar moieties in the form of isomers, and lipid moieties with variations including fatty acyl chain length, unsaturation, and hydr...
متن کاملMass-spectrometric analysis of glycerophospholipid metabolism
This thesis consists of five parts. In the first part, an automated method for quantitative analysis of phospholipid compositions of cells and tissues by liquid chromatographymass spectrometry was developed. In the second part, this method was applied to investigate brain lipid compositions of patients with progressive epilepsy with mental retardation (EPMR), caused by mutations in the CLN8 gen...
متن کاملMass spectrometric analysis of glucose-modified ribonuclease.
RNase A (1 mM) was incubated with glucose (0.4 M) at 37 degrees C for up to 14 days in phosphate buffer (0.2 M, pH 7.4), digested with trypsin and analysed by LC-MS. The major sites of fructoselysine formation were Lys(1), Lys(7), Lys(37) and Lys(41). Three of these sites (Lys(7), Lys(37) and Lys(41)) were also the major sites of N epsilon-(carboxymethyl)lysine formation.
متن کاملMass spectrometric analysis of protein–ligand interactions
The interactions of small molecules with proteins (protein-ligand interactions) mediate various biological phenomena including signal transduction and protein transcription and translation. Synthetic compounds such as drugs can also bind to target proteins, leading to the inhibition of protein-ligand interactions. These interactions typically accompany association-dissociation equilibrium accor...
